Record-high 12,600 illegal migrants break into America in one day while government officials snooze away

On Dec. 18, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported a record-breaking number of border crossings, with at least 12,600 migrants coming into the country in one day. Most of the crossings happened in Eagle Pass, Texas, where an estimated 4,000 migrants broke through.
National correspondent for Fox News Bill Melugin shared on X (formerly Twitter) a video where thousands of asylum seekers wait to be processed in the Texas city. “I’ve spent hundreds of days there over the last two-plus years and I’ve never seen it like this,” he said. Another post from Jorge Ventura Media showed hundreds more migrants illegally crossing despite the strong currents in that area of the Rio Grande.

Meanwhile, retired Col. Pete Chambers warned that America is being occupied, overrun and invaded by illegals while “Congress is asleep and both political parties snooze away.” In a video shared by Health Ranger Mike Adams on Brighteon Social, Chambers states that on the evening of Dec. 18, more than 5,000 asylum seekers were sitting on the ground at the Eagle Pass point of entry, waiting to be processed. “In the information we received, 7,000 more should be processed at this particular point by morning,” he added. “We need to get this video to the legislators and tell them in the state of Texas, particularly, this is out of control.”
Tony Gonzalez, a Republican congressman who represents the affected region, estimated an even higher number of total crossings than the CBP the following morning, saying over 14,000 migrants had crossed the border illegally – “the highest in U.S. history.” He predicted that Christmas Day would be even worse, lamenting: “President Joe Biden has abandoned border communities like mine.”
The said surge of illegals occurred despite Texas Governor Greg Abbott signing a new state law, criminalizing crossing the border illegally. According to him, Biden has dismantled the strong immigration policies implemented by former President Donald Trump and left Texas to “fend for itself” after opening the “gates” and inviting foreigners to come to America. However, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Texas Civil Rights Project have already sued to try and overturn Abbott’s legislation. Railroad, farm companies urge reopening of major railway crossings
According to a report in the National Pulse, the illegal immigration crisis has gotten so bad that the CBP has taken the extraordinary step of shutting down two major railway crossings at Eagle Pass and El Paso, another migrant hotspot, as many illegals have been riding railway cars to the border. It did not say how long rail operations would be paused.
Transport company Union Pacific Railroad has already complained that “45 percent of all rail cars moving to and from Mexico cross through El Paso and Eagle Pass.” The firm has already pleaded for the government to reopen the crossings. Union Pacific estimated its losses, in goods, wages and transportation costs, to exceed $200 million a day if the crossings in both cities remain closed. Meanwhile, BNSF Railway did not provide a dollar estimate of losses but said it anticipates an impact on employees and a significant “downstream effect across our system, since those trains then travel throughout our 32,500-mile network,” according to a statement shared with the Associated Press.
“The train doesn’t just stop at Eagle Pass. This train doesn’t just impact Texas,” Gonzalez said Tuesday during a news conference. “The train impacts all of America, goods that are going all over America.”
In this connection, agricultural groups also appealed for the re-opening of the border to restore the trade routes as it is already causing steep export losses. In a sharply worded letter to U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the growers – representing corn, milk, rice and soybean producers – said that the crossings could be easily reopened. “Each day the crossings are closed we estimate almost one million bushels of grain exports are potentially lost along with export potential for many other agricultural products,” the group wrote, adding that blocking food heading to Mexico could lead to inflation or food insecurity there.
Among the groups signing the agricultural business letter were the National Grain and Feed Association, U.S. Wheat Associates, American Soybean Association and National Corn Growers Association.
